While the DC cinematic universe may not be at its best, the company can thankfully rely on its television productions. Indeed, some DC series continue to be developed and passionate the fans, such as this show, renewed for a fifth season.
Where are we with the DC universe on screen?
You probably already know, but the DC universe on the big screen is undergoing a total overhaul. James Gunn and Peter Safran have recently been appointed heads of DC Films and are tasked with renewing the DC universe at the cinema. The aim is to propose a solid universe and reactivate fans’ interest. James Gunn and Peter Safran are therefore starting (once again) from scratch. Both men have thanked most of the emblematic figures of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) like Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, and Gal Gadot.
James Gunn took the opportunity to rename the DCEU the DC Universe (DCU) and is already working on his next film: Superman – Legacy. As for the DCEU, it is slowly dying out, in total disinterest. Shazam: The Wrath of the Gods only brought in $133 million at the box office, The Flash struggled to reach $270 million in revenue, while Blue Beetle only brought in $129 million in revenue. This speaks volumes about the state of the DCEU. Fans can console themselves with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the last film of the DCEU before the total overhaul of the DC universe at the cinema on December 20th.
A series that continues on its merry way
While the DCEU is stumbling at the cinema, there is however a series that continues on its merry way. Indeed, the animated series Harley Quinn has been renewed for a fifth season. Created in 2019 by Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, and Dean Lorey, the Harley Quinn series quickly convinced fans with its irreverent humor, graphic violence and decidedly mature tone. A fifth season will therefore be broadcast on Max.
As a reminder, at the end of season 4, fans left Harley Quinn with her lover Poison Ivy. Barbara Gordon was paralyzed by the Joker and is now in a wheelchair. Aided by Catwoman, the four women decided to reform the Birds of Prey. Max has not yet confirmed the release date of this season 5.
